MAX Singapore finishes up, 1 down 2 to go

MAX Singapore finished up yesterday with a bang with Yugo Nakamura. He had some pretty neat examples going with some of his old work and the latest. I've gotta say though that Mario's presentations on bitmaps and the VJ application came up tops in my books along with Jared's presos on making stuff just move by itself. I suck at stuff like that, so it's quite interesting and a good learning experience for me to watch and see how it all works. Very very cool stuff going on there, and Mario says he's going to post his examples and presos on his blog for everybody to check out later.

My sessions on FMS2 went quite well, with a good turnout of about 1/3 of the attendees. There were about 350 people there in all I think. The first session on best practices and architecture did much better than the security topic.. Security for FMS is quite bland, so no surprise there.

Tomorrow morning, I head off to Korea for the MAX conference there on the 15th and 16th. I've only got one session there but after that it's off to Hong Kong and back to 2 sessions. Supposedly there are already 700 people or so registered for that event.. it's going to be fun I think.

It's pretty neat to see how each region is doing in certain areas. I've noticed there isn't a huge market at the moment for FMS2 here, but there sure seems to be a growing interest.

Anyways, I'll make sure to get my presentations up after Hong Kong, which is when I'm sure you'll see a lot of the other presenters presos going up. This is mainly because a lot of us are just doing the same presentations over and over again.

Hello Graeme,

I was at your sessions about FMS2. I think you did a pretty good job as your presentations were clean and your speach was clear.

Your security presentation a good reminder about the best practises in working with a server and passing information.
For me your presentation is something I will often refer to in my server development to be sure i did not forget any step in my development.

A funny example was in Mark Blair's presentation where in his chat example he was using the name of the user for the user id (user.id="mark A") and I was thinking he should have attended your presentation to be at least more coherent in the information of best practices given to developers at MAX.

Even if Singapore is warm all year long, people here are quite reserved and cold, they won't applaude and scream crazily even if they can be very enthusiast. Also I have noticed they will rarely ask any questions.
So I hope you did not get offended. I am working in Singapore since one year now and it is something that surprised me much compared to France (where i am coming from) where people will ask even more questions than the general topic. Maybe there is a "curiosity" gene.

Thank you.
Bazard.

PS: To put a face on my name, I don't know if you remember me, but i was the western guy who were asking you about the use of SharedObjects in FMS at the end of your session.

Hi Bazard,

Thank you very much for the compliments. I'm really glad you enjoyed the presentations and that they were useful for you in your work as well.

I do remember you quite clearly, and just want to mention again that using Shared Objects is a good thing, you just need to think of how you want to architect your application. Sometimes they are not needed at all, and sometimes adding in them in can save time elsewhere due to less coding.

I had a feeling that things would be a bit subdued, and that's not a problem at all. I'm just glad I had so many questions at the end :)

Anyways, feel free to post anymore questions you have on FMS. As I mentioned in my presentations, once FMS2 makes it out, I will be posting a few tutorials on some best practices and if you've got something that would make for a good tutorial, I'd be glad to post something up.

Thanks
Graeme

Having lived in Japan for so long a "reserved" audience should have come as no shock to you ;)

Hi Graeme,

I was at your FMS2 presentation in MAX Singapore. Great presentation on FMS2. Anyway, don't mind us locals, most conferences I went to in Singapore are like that.

And Bazard, i think I saw you there too. :)

Thanks Gerald, much appreciated on the compliments :) Keep an eye out for the example I showed and new one that I built for the Korea presentation I did that I wish I did for Singapore too. Details to come soon!
